Having grown up near Macalester College and now living in Highland Park, John has been a lifelong St. Paul resident. Despite the high property taxes :), St. Paul has been a great place to live and raise a family.
From the mid 80's to the late 90's John worked as a real estate appraiser, mostly appraising single family homes, but also working on commercial, vacant land, and condemnation appraisals. The work sent him throughout the greater metro area inspecting homes and analyzing sold properties. He became very familiar with the Twin Cities. He also became familiar with the range of housing stock in our communities from turn of the century homes, to post war tract housing, to the variety of modern new construction of the past 40 years. Part of the job was to notice the distinct characteristics of each property in terms of quality and condition; and all of this experience and knowledge directly benefits his buyers and sellers today.
Though appraising was enjoyable, John desired to work with people on a more personal level. He began a family and soon became a coach...of everything. Coaching led to an elementary teaching license, which led to a 20 year teaching career. He so appreciated his time as a teacher, and his best memories were the connections he made with people – the kids, the parents, and his colleagues. Please always try to support teachers and schools!
In 2008 he reconnected with real estate getting his sales license and working part time for a small brokerage. What fun! Occasionally helping friends, family, and teachers buy and sell homes worked as a temporary diversion from planning lessons and correcting papers. After 20 years, he retired as a teacher and started his own realty company with a mission to use his experience and knowledge of real estate, as well as teaching, to help people negotiate the process of buying or selling a home. Thank you for considering John as your agent.
